NPPA Code of Ethics
1. Be Accurate and Comprehensive
Photojournalists should present images that truthfully represent the scene and avoid misleading viewers.

Do not stage or manipulate news photos.

Provide accurate captions and context.

Avoid oversimplifying complex events.
2. Resist Manipulation
Photojournalists must not alter images in ways that mislead the public.

Editing should be limited to standard adjustments (crop, exposure, color balance).

Do not add, remove, or move elements in an image.
3. Be Complete and Honest in Captioning
Captions must be accurate and transparent.

Clearly identify subjects.

Explain what is happening.

Avoid assumptions or speculation.
4. Treat Subjects With Respect
Photojournalists should treat all subjects with dignity, especially in sensitive situations.

Show compassion for victims of crime or tragedy.

Respect privacy when appropriate.

5. Avoid Conflicts of Interest
Maintain independence and credibility.
