David Swanson

David Swanson is a Pulitzer Prize–winning photojournalist with four decades of experience covering stories worldwide for The Philadelphia Inquirer. His work has appeared on the front pages of The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, and The Washington Post. A recipient of the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service and the 2004 World Press Photo Golden Eye Award, he has reported from war zones in Bosnia, Afghanistan, and Iraq—where he was wounded in combat—as well as from major disasters including the Haiti earthquake and Hurricane Katrina.
Author of Water Music: Of Salmon, Saabs and Spey Rods and creator of the documentary Echoes of War, David now hosts the podcast Just the Photographer, sharing the untold, deeply personal stories behind his most powerful images.
