Patrick Tehan
A native of Springfield, Ohio, Patrick Tehan graduated from Ohio University in 1979. Over a forty-year career he has worked as a staff photographer at a number of newspapers around the country, including: The Kettering-Oakwood Times in Kettering, Ohio, The Orange County Register in Santa Ana, California, The Pittsburgh Press in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and was Director of Photography at The Sun in Bremerton, Washington.
Tehan has contributed to several books in the Day in the Life series: America, California, Spain, the Soviet Union, China, Italy, Ireland as well as Christmas in America, The Jews in America, The Power to Heal, Baseball in America, Passage to Vietnam and 24 Hours in Cyberspace.
Among Tehan’s many distinctions include runner-up Newspaper Photographer of the Year for 1992, National Press Photographers Association.
He also was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize three times and was a finalist in 2003.
Tehan taught a photojournalism class for four years as an adjunct professor at San Jose (California) State University.
He recently retired as staff photographer at the San Jose Mercury News in San Jose and currently resides in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is available for freelance work.
