Kent Porter
Kent Porter is a photojournalist based in Sonoma County, California. He has spent nearly four decades at The Santa Rosa Press Democrat, where his work has documented the people, landscapes, and defining moments of Northern California.
Over the past fifteen years, Porter’s reporting has increasingly focused on the effects of climate change, with particular attention to wildfires and other natural disasters. His coverage has chronicled both the immediate impact and long-term consequences of wildfire devastation as communities continue to recover and adapt.
Porter is an eight-time NPPA West Region Photographer of the Year and a Pulitzer Prize winner for Breaking News Reporting. His work has received numerous state and national awards and has been published worldwide, including in Time, Newsweek, Mother Jones, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, and The London Times.
He continues to pursue in-depth visual reporting on environmental change at both the local and national level.
